A Beautiful Day – In MD
It Truly Was
And it was yet another gorgeous day for biking, just like yesterday.
And just like nearly every weekend this summer. I took advantage of it – again – with a pair of 20 mile bike trips. I estimated that it took about 20 seconds to be invigorated.
But it was not so perfect in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region. My heart goes out to the people who have been forced – again – to leave their homes. But I must say that the whole situation there seems to have been handled much, much better than it was three years ago, from the top on down. And so far, the levies are holding (a good thingTM).
Even Mayor Ray Nagin deserves some kudos this time, even if it’s not exactly over yet.
The mayor has ordered a mandatory evacuation from New Orleans.
The citizens of New Orleans using this program will leave the city on buses and trains to various locations in the Southeast.
It was, of course, the right decision, and the decision was timely. The people of New Orleans listened and responded appropriately.
As Col. John “Hannibal” Smith used to say (alot), “I love it when a good plan comes together.”
