Hang Down Your Head, Tom Dooley

The Kingston Trio’s Music Lives

But founding member Nick Reynolds has died at the age of 75.

Reynolds had been hospitalized with acute respiratory disease and other illnesses, and died Wednesday in San Diego.

“Dad was so happy he turned people onto music in a way that people could really approach it, in a simple and honest way,” Josh Reynolds told The Associated Press. “He was a very gracious and loving performer. He was a devoted family man.”

I grew up with the music that he helped revive. It’s said that their hit, MTA, (officially the The MTA Song) was one of the very few that endorses a political candidate by name.

Now you citizens of Boston,
Don’t you think it’s a scandal
That the people have to pay and pay
Vote for Walter A. O’Brien
Fight the fare increase!
And fight the fare increase
Vote for George O’Brien!
Get poor Charlie off the MTA.
